So far my work is concerned with blurring the boundary between the real and surreal focusing on natural landscapes. I use a combination of real locations and sculptures that are adapted to create a new environment. These landscapes are exaggerated to take the form of microcosmic worlds exploring the possibility of miniature life forms. It is the abscence of fantastical creatures that considers what is real or artificial.
In looking at photographs of these worlds they include indications that the authenticity is questionable and therefore the viewer is further distanced from reality.
My recent work still takes inspiration from fairytales but it has become a consideration between fact and fiction where trickery comes into play. It is important to subvert expectations and create a new outlook on something familiar.
All my sculptures are made using a combination of plasticine, wire, mdf, man made and found elements. This is finished with acrylic or oil paint.
