About
I am currently studying fine art at Bath Spa University.
I make replicas of natural specimens in an attempt to reproduce something that is deceivingly realistic using wire, newplast and oil paint where the objects understandably reveal imperfections. The sculptures can be found nestled in soil on the floor or tucked between the pannels of a wall infesting a space. The replicas cannot help but refer to fairytales due to the use of mushrooms and the miniature. For this reason there are indications that authenticity is questionable distancing the viewer from reality. As my practice has developed a curiosity has arisen in trying to distinguish fact from fiction questioning how accurate these replicas need to be in order to be trusted. Appropriately a notion of trickery has come into place where expectations are subverted and a new perspective is given. In order to push the boundaries between fact and fiction further photography and film are essential to emphasize the influences of documentaries and cataloging while offering a moment of doubt to the viewer.
